How to do it

    Open Messages settings

    Go to Settings > Apps > Messages.

    Change Send Read Receipts

    Turn Send Read Receipts on or off as desired.

When you are done

You are done when Send Read Receipts is set the way you want.

Good to know

Read receipts apply to iMessage, and per-contact settings can override the general setting.
